Simple Solutions to Most Visits to the Nurse's Office
Tummy aches and headaches with no fever and no other symptoms are encouraged to drink water. Sometimes they get a snack too if they did not eat breakfast or did not have enough at breakfast. I always offer to fill up their own personal water bottles if they have one.
Advantages of Drinking Water

Drinking water can contribute to good health, and schools are in a unique position to promote healthy, dietary behaviors, including drinking water. More than 95% of children and adolescents are enrolled in schools, and students typically spend at least 6 hours at school each day.
Throughout the day, you lose about 8 cups of water from your body. If you don’t replace this lost water, it can lead to dehydration, which presents as thirst, headaches, dizziness, drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, muscle cramps and dry mouth. Soda does not replace the water you lose, and caffeinated sodas can actually make dehydration worse by increasing urine production. A 12-ounce can of caffeinated soda contains 45 milligrams of caffeine -- about half that found in an 8-ounce cup of coffee. If you do drink soda, drink an extra glass of water for every can of soda.
Encouraging Kids to drink water:
Keep the Focus Positive: Talk about the Benefits
Be an example for your kids: Drink water in front of them
Limit their choices: Don’t have pop and other sugary drinks for them to choose from at home
Taste your Water: Adding a filter may make it taste better. Also try adding pieces of fresh or frozen fruit for natural flavor
Take a trip the store: Let them pick out a refillable bottle of their own and encourage them to take it to school.
